we are on the countdown to the big move
two weeks to go
We are moving! We signed a lease on an upper duplex in South Mpls. We'll be moving sometime in June, I've just got to pick a date to get all the big stuff moved over, I'm thinking the third week of June. We need to be out of our current place by June 30. If we move the third week, we can use the last week to get this place super clean so we can get most, if not all, of our deposit back.
The best part is our downstairs' neighbors are friends of ours! We have grand plans to garden in the back yard. I'm so excited!
Other bonuses about the place: central air, washer/dryer in unit and a dishwasher!
There is, so far, only one drawback to the place: no storage! there are only two closets, one in each bedroom, not nearly enough for pack rats like G and myself! I guess it's PURGE time. My mom is going to store all the baby gear since it'd be stupid to sell or donate that stuff just to have to buy new stuff if/when I get pregnant in the hopefully near future. I'll be investing in some space bags so we can utilize the space under our giant bed and in LS' closet. And we'll have a lot of clothes to donate or give away. And I'm sure quite a bit of trash to toss/recycle.
I'll also have to buy a dresser/storage unit at some point for linens. And something to hang our coats on by the door. but at least it's summer now so no coats for a few months.
Now I just have to start the packing. First off, like I always do with every move, is to pack up the books! Then the knickknack-y crap (which will be seriously thinned out) and on to sorting and packing away the clothes. Here we go!
We will finally be able to move out of this apartment come July. We are looking for a house, duplex or four-plex (in that order) in the Powderhorn Park area. If you know of any kickass places there, please let me or Greg know!
in trying to "fix" the red bike, I totally busted the rear brake. crap
it's been rainy and overcast the last couple of days which is a good thing since it's so dry here.
My bike was fixed and now is broken again. I rode it Friday to work and then Saturday morning when I went to leave, the tire was flat again. Not sure what the hell is going on with the back tire. I'll have to learn how to fix the damn bike myself I guess. It was great to ride to work again, I really missed it all winter.
I have a red ten speed in our storage locker that I want to fix up. I should get that up on my porch so I'll be motivated to do something with it.
and am getting my bike going again for another season of biking to work. Hopefully, I can find a used burly for LS and we will bike all over this city.
some friends we met through work are coming over thursday (hopefully) and we will be fixing bikes all afternoon. I can't wait to start riding again. I'm so over riding the bus to work. I hate taking an hour to get home from work because I have to wait until 1:30 for my damn bus. I hate leaving for work at 5am on sundays when I don't work until 6am.
I realize, it's awesome that I can ride the bus to work without too much hassle but I'm done with that bit of hassle and ready for bike commuting once more!
normally, when I take breaks from blogging, I don't write about what has happened while I was on hiatus but I just have to say, hell ya! the 2008 presidential election was just way too awesome and unbelievable.
score for the Navy SEALS
Ordered to shoot to kill, snipers on the heaving stern of the destroyer had one improbable chance to get it right.
The scene was set as darkness fell Sunday evening off the African coast: The last three pirates, holding Phillips in an enclosed powerless lifeboat, appeared to be running out of patience with their
I'm happy to finally read about the pirates -not- getting away with kidnapping and stealing. Hopefully, this will be the beginning of the end to the out of control situation in the Gulf of Aden.
just like zombie jesus.
I'm going to give this bloggin' thing a try again
finish putting the kitchen together! argh. I know I'll feel better if I just do it though.
I have started the laundry.
I've been riding my bike to work and I LOVE it! The trip is a lot faster than I thought it'd be and it actually feels like a workout. The greenway is awesome, I've seen bunnies every morning.
We still have random boxes of crap that I need to go through and sort and then store. Why do I move these boxes with me move after move? Gah, it's so stupid.
The bookcases in the living room is not a great idea. LS loves to pull the books off the shelves and leave them all over the floor. I need to think of a better place for the shelves. There are not many options.
Okay, better tackle the kitchen.
My first big storm since moving back is raging outside right now! I really missed thunderstorms when I lived in San Francisco!
From the National Weather Service:
The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for the Twin Cities metro. The warning includes Hennepin County, eastern Carver County and northeastern Scott County. The storm is capable of producing large damaging hail up to golf ball size and damaging winds in excess of 65 mph.
I should just ride my bike the four miles to work and deal but instead I'm taking the easy way out and taking the bus again. maybe tomorrow. I'm such a wuss.
