yay!

so, we got the apartment!  I got the call this morning, the apartment is ours, all ours!

It's a nice big two bedroom with a yard, laundry in the basement, storage and a free parking space (which we don't need yet.)  There's a ton busses and it's fairly close to my work, probably a 30 minute bike ride on the Greeway! yay!  The bus to work will take about the same amount of time for those super hot, thunderstormy, super cold or snowy days. haha.

Now I just gotta pack up the house.  sigh.

moving stuff

So the baby and I are flying to Mpls May 5-7 to score us an apartment!  I really hope we find something :)  I found a cheap flight so that is why we are going.  Plus, I'm stressing about the living situation so finding a place in advance of actually moving us and all our stuff to MN will be one less stress for me to deal with.

I can't wait to just be there and over this crap.  argh! okay :)

Stuff

So Greg had his shoulder surgery on Wednesday and is now recuperating at home.  He’s in quite a bit of pain and has been sleeping most of the last two days.  Poor guy.  He is not supposed to move/lift his right arm for four weeks.  Thankfully he’s got about two weeks of sick time through his work and my work is allowing me to come in at 8 so I can feed him and get the baby to bed before work.  I feel  a bit overwhelmed just because we don’t have family to help us out. Thankfully, our roommate will be here at night to help Greg out if LS needs something while I’m at work.  She pretty much stays asleep once asleep but just in case, it’s nice to know someone is here that can lift her out of her crib.

I’m obsessively checking out craigslist for an apartment.  Not too many are available July 1 but once I find one or a few that are in neighborhoods I like, I’m going to really pursue them from out here and hopefully get us a place before we arrive in MN.  I hate the stress of not knowing where we will be living.  Hopefully, I’ll find a decent landlord that will work with us since we are out of state.  *fingers crossed*

Our trip to San Deigo was awesome.  It was great to see most of my family.  I put some pics up here so check ’em out.  My gramma is doing okay, they found more cancer and she is going to start chemo :(  I hope the chemo is not too hard on her but I fear it will be.  She still has a great attitude about the whole thing and I know she enjoyed seeing us all.

For you west coasters, I really love Virgin America and am sad they do not fly to the midwest, as I would always choose them to fly if I could. You should use them next time you fly, they rock. Brand new planes, fun flight attendants and we actually had a decent time flying.

It's on

Alright!  We have determined our last days of work and I’ve gone ahead and reserved the moving truck.  Minnesota, here we come!

Final change on the move

Originally posted March 18, 2008

okay after some more thinking on the subject, our final move date is going to be the end of June, not May.  We will hit the road the last week of June.  I promise, no more changes now LOL!

More moving news

We’ve moved up the move date, again.   We are leaving at the end of May.  Probably May 28.  I’m nervous and excited.  Can we get all our shit together in two and a half months?  I’ll be reserving the truck next week and then start packing I guess.  I’ll start with my books and any non-essential stuff.  Also, I’ll probably go through all my clothes and start weeding out things I have no use for anymore (size 4 jeans anyone?)  I think I might have a wee sidewalk sale thing to try to unload all the unwanted stuff.  Okay, off to plan!

the move

Well, I'm starting to ever so slightly freak out about our upcoming move back to Minneapolis.  First, we moved the date of the move up to August.  Which is a good thing except that, goddamn, August will be here before we know it!

Secondly, my biggest concern right now, besides, of course, having enough money to do all this, is how are we going to get our stuff, our cats and ourselves back to Minneapolis? The moving truck is spendy but we definitely need to get one since I'm not replacing all of our stuff, I love my cal king too much!  Do I rent a car to get me, the kid and the cats back?  or do I buy us plane tickets?

Finally, the whole packing and cleaning stuff is just yuck.  and I'll have a 20 month old to "help" me.  And the final day we are here, how is that going to work.  We get the truck in the morning, block traffic on the street, load it up and then what do I do?  If I fly, how do I know what time to book my flight?  I think I'd want to leave the same day but I guess I could stay in a hotel near the airport with kid and cats and leave the next day in case the loading of the truck takes forever or something.  If I end up driving in a rental, that's easy, I'll just leave with the truck.

I wouldn't mind the drive, I love road trips and I think I can get my sister and mom and nephew to join me on the trip.  But, in August, I could never leave the cats in the car while we ate.

and finally finally, everything is FREAKING expensive. Car rental $500+ (and gas prices are INSANE and we'd need to stay in motels each night and eat), one way plane tickets $200-$400, rental truck $1500-$2000.  Plus I'd actually like to fly out to Mpls before we move to secure an apt/duplex so there is another $600-$800.

The Story of Stuff

watch this video!  It's 20 minutes long but worth it, IMO.

what a day so far...

well, it has been an interesting thursday to say the least.

First, I find out my gramma has lung cancer.  fuck :(  my mom called to tell me right after LS' breakfast.  After I cried a bit and talked with G, I called her and immediatly felt better after talking with her.  She is very positive and sounds great and just has a good attitude.  We are flying down there at the end of march to visit her and my grampa.  My sister, her hubby and son and my mom will all be there too so that will be fun and my gramma is so excited to have us all there.  She is waiting to hear from the oncologist to see what her options are so we aren't sure how bad the cancer is, if it is worth treating it, etc.  :(

Gramma and me in San Diego, 2000

Gramma meeting LS for the first time in Dec 2006

After talking with my gramma, I went and started cooking a beef stew for dinner tonight.  I babysit a friend's 6 month old on Saturdays and they pay us with food, usually beef from the resturant where he works.  So I cut up the tri tip and added potatoes, carrots, onion and some garlic in beef broth and tossed it in the oven to slow cook all day.  Yum!

And then I got our taxes completed so YAY for that.  We are getting a nice refund that we really need.

Oil spill in the Bay!

This is sad.  I wish I could volunteer but I have no one to watch the baby.

from SFgate.com:

Ship crashes into Bay Bridge tower, spills fuel oil

An 810-foot-long container ship crashed into the base of a tower of the Bay Bridge's western span in heavy fog Wednesday, spilling 58,000 gallons of fuel into San Francisco Bay.

Dozens of birds killed, hundreds of thousands threatened by spill

"When we got between the Golden Gate and the lighthouse at Point Bonita under the north end of the bridge, we saw a lot of oil in the water. We didn't expect that much oil from what had been reported. And then we knew we were going to see a lot of oiled birds," Holcomb said.

Bar pilot on errant ship had several mishaps in past

Cota, 59, has been a bar pilot, guiding ships in and out of San Francisco Bay and its tributaries, for more than 25 years. Many mariners consider him an excellent ship handler.

But he has had four "incidents" involving an investigation by the Board of Pilot   Commissioners in the past 14 years and has been "counseled" by pilot commission executives on several other occasions, documents show.

Shopping

I hate shopping for jeans.  The whole ordeal makes me feel very gross about my  body.  Fuck you jeans.
